Debra M. Torres

Managing Director

Ms. Torres joined Kalorama as a Managing Director, and opened its New York office, after twenty eight years as a securities, business and corporate governance litigator at the international law firm of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where she was a partner.  She graduated from Yale Law School in 1981.  Throughout her professional career, Debra represented clients involved in federal and state securities litigation, SEC enforcement and federal criminal investigations, shareholder and derivative litigation, corporate governance matters, contests for corporate control, and a wide variety of commercial and business litigation.  Her courtroom experience includes conducting civil trials and evidentiary hearings in numerous state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings, and arguing appeals in both federal and state appellate courts.   Ms. Torres is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York,  the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits, and the Supreme Court.

 

Ms. Torres is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of LatinoJustice PRLDEF, a national civil rights organization, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of New York.  Ms. Torres is also a member of the Federal Bar Council and the American Bar Association. 

 

Prior to graduating from Yale Law School in 1981, Ms. Torres earned a B.A. in History from Yale University in 1977.
