Louis M. Thompson, Jr.

Managing Director

Louis M. Thompson, Jr. joined Kalorama Partners as a Managing Director in September, 2006. Prior to joining KP, Lou was CEO, President and Board Member of the National Investor Relations Institute, the country’s premier association of investor relations professionals, for nearly a quarter of a century. An internationally recognized expert on corporate disclosure, governance and other strategic management issues, Lou authored NIRI’s Standards of Practice for Corporate Disclosure. Lou has served as an advisor to the SEC and is in his second term on the NYSE’s Individual Investor Advisory Committee. He is a charter member of the PR Newswire Disclosure Advisory Board.

Lou was a member of Harvard University’s New Foundations Working Group on corporate governance, and recently served on the board of the National Council for Economic Education. Lou received the industry’s first lifetime achievement award in investor relations by Investor Relations Magazine and Barron’s (2000). He was recognized by Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal and Investor Relations Magazine for his service in corporate communications and investor relations professions (2006). Prior to NIRI, Lou was Assistant White House Press Secretary to President Ford and held various key public affairs positions for the US Command in Vietnam and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He has held executive communication positions with the American Enterprise Institute, the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Home Builders. He began his career in 1960 as a news anchor in central Iowa. He is Chairman of the Advisory Council for Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, where he earned BS and MS degrees, and was the 2001 recipient of the James W. Schwartz Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism and Communication conferred by the Greenlee School. Lou began in September 2006 as a monthly columnist on disclosure, governance and investor issues for Compliance Week.
